Edgar Hellwig’s luminous canvases are an expression of his metaphysical passion for looking beyond the limitations of the concrete and directing his gaze into the sheer infinite expanse of ever new horizons. The variations of the infinity of colour, light and form that fascinates him seem inexhaustible. His horizontal landscapes radiate calm and confidence and yet the colour compositions also contain elements of the surreal, which lend the gentle canvases a subliminal power and tension.
