Conrad Sevens

1966-1968 Studied at the Academie des Beaux-Arts, Paris
Works in Düsseldorf and Tarascon

"Those who want to see, see," Conrad Sevens likes to say.
"He himself wants to see, and he sees a lot - and he succeeds in creating images that, in their characteristic ambiguity, move in a magical limbo. It is no coincidence that he is often referred to as the “painter of souls”, because as an avowed post-romanticist he refers to a line of tradition with Caspar David Friedrich and William Turner - and turns nature into a polyphonic reflection of human moods, feelings and longings. Sevens paints the nature within us. He is a virtuoso of landscape painting, transcending real or fictitious topographies and condensing and deepening them into inner landscapes. Sevens often already has a clear, concrete vision in his mind’s eye before he begins to paint a picture.

Über Conrad Sevens Nebellandschaften

His work has an unmistakable profile. The wide, flat landscape of the Lower Rhine in particular has inspired Sevens to create almost meditative foggy landscapes , often melancholy impressions of meadows and forests, sky and earth, enchanted (and also puzzled) by the fascinating radiance of diverse light moods. Nature and inner nature are also reflected in fog paintings, in river courses almost on the verge of unrecognizability and agitated motifs of stormy seas, all of which also occupy an important place in Sevens’ oeuvre. Such works made the painter famous early on and made him popular with the public and collectors." Experience Conrad Sevens’ foggy landscapes in the original now!
