Über Volker Thehos Städte und Landschaften auf Leinwand
On the Technique Behind the Cities and Landscapes on Canvas
Acrylic painting over digital print. The background of each piece begins with a photograph of a texture this could be a house wall, a fence, wood, rusted metal, or a torn advertising billboard. I digitally process the photo on the computer and have it printed onto canvas. I then stretch the canvas over a frame and paint the main subject onto it using traditional acrylic techniques.
I reduce the painted forms to their essentials and compose them deliberately on top of the printed backgrounds. The boundaries between photography and painting, between reality and interpretation, begin to blur. This invites viewers to engage more consciously, offering them fresh perspectives and visual surprises.
