About the art of Franz Josef Timmer
Franz Josef Timmer creates paintings inspired by classical styles of modern constructivist art. His work draws on Constructivism, the painters of the Bauhaus movement, the De Stijl group around Theo van Doesburg and Piet Mondrian, as well as artists such as Jasper Johns, Robert Indiana, Max Bill, and Josef Albers the latter especially due to the museum in Timmer’s hometown of Bottrop.
Over time, he has developed a style of his own: intricate perspectives emerge that both stimulate the eye and challenge the mind are we inside or outside, above or below?
Timmer designs color distributions as sophisticated systems that, in turn, come together in a harmonious whole.
