About the art of Friederike Rave
Wildness and Abundance:The mystery of nature, the enigmatic aspects that we as humans can only partially grasp and understand, fascinates me immensely. The vibrant colors of leaves and flowers, and that magical moment when a bird "looks back" at me during the painting process—meeting my gaze—is always a wonderful experience that I love to share with the viewers of my paintings.
I spent a long time developing the perfect primer that allows me to paint with watercolor, gouache, and oil paints while preserving the luminosity of the colors, most of which I grind myself. I constantly create studies, sketch, and observe birds, study leaves, light, and the changing moods of different times of the day.
In some of my paintings, birds are hidden among leaves, submerged in waves of color, yet they always assert their individuality against the abstract power of colors and dynamic brushstrokes. It is an endlessly fascinating process for me.
