About the art of Christine Eichholtz
In my acrylic paintings, I consider color to be an eminently important element of my work. My education in the USA and exposure to American Abstract Expressionism have influenced my painting style. I favor large color fields, which gain strength and dynamism when placed side by side or, when applied transparently, reveal glimpses of previous processes. The fascination with both ancient and modern Japanese calligraphy informs my approach to line work. Lines connect, divide, densify, and often appear as a "frieze" or script-like element along the edge of the canvas.
My acrylic paintings are mostly abstract; recognizable elements of the familiar world, of apparent reality, are rare. However, the color fields and lines exist in a deliberate relationship with one another...
