About the art of Michael Gottschalk
"My painting is rooted in observation, in looking closely, in experiencing," says the painter and architect Michael Gottschalk of himself. The bright light of the southern sun (Provence), **cityscapes** from Venice or Florence are preferred themes that fascinate the artist. Gottschalk applies the paint thinly and extensively in a strongly glazing technique, enhancing it with drawings using oil pastels or graphite—gently shifting color chords emerge, merging into shimmering light refractions. Michael Gottschalk’s cityscapes on canvas are timelessly beautiful witnesses to the passing of time.
